Aspendos
Aspendos was an ancient Greco-Roman city in Antalya. It was an ancient city in Pamphylia, Asia Minor, located about 45 km east of the Porto Bello Hotel Antalya. Aspendos is known for having the best-preserved theatre of antiquity. With a diametre of 96 metres (315 ft), the theatre provided seating for 7,000. It was built in 155 by the Greek architect Zenon, a native of the city, during the rule of Marcus Aurelius.
Perge
Perge was an ancient Greek city in Anatolia and the capital of Pamphylia, now in Antalya province on the southwestern Mediterranean coast of Turkey. Today it is a large site of ancient ruins 20 kilometres east of Porto Bello Hotel Antalya on the coastal plain. Located there is an acropolis dating back to the Bronze Age. During the Hellenistic period, Perge was one of the richest and most beautiful cities in the ancient world, famous for its temple of Artemis. Perge itself was founded in around 1000 BC and is nearly 20 kilometres inland.
Side
Side was an ancient Greek city in Anatolia, in the region of Pamphylia, on the southern Mediterranean coast of Turkey. It is now a resort town and one of the best-known classical sites in Turkey, near Manavgat and 80 km from Porto Bello Hotel. Today, as in antiquity, the ancient city is situated on a small north-south peninsula about 1 km long and 400 m across. It is founded in the 7th century BC. Possessing a good harbour for small-craft boats, Side's natural geography made it one of the most important places in Pamphylia and one of the most important trade centres in the region.
Termessos
Termessos was a Pisidian city built at an altitude of more than 1000 meters at the south-west side of the mountain Güllük in the Taurus Mountains. It lies 35 kilometres to the north-west of Porto Bello Hotel Antalya. It was founded on a natural platform on top of Güllük Dağı, soaring to a height of 1.665 metres from among the surrounding travertine mountains of Antalya, which average only 200 metres above sea level. Termessos constitutes an unusual synthesis of a large number of rare plants and animal species, which are under protection in the Termessos National Park. Concealed by a multitude of wild plants and bounded by dense pine forests, the site, with its peaceful and untouched appearance, has a more distinct and impressive atmosphere than other ancient cities.
Phaselis
Phaselis is an ancient Lycian city in the province of Antalya in Turkey. It is located between the Bey Mountains and the forests of Olympos National Park, and 50 km. from Porto Bello Hotel Antalya. The town was set up by the Rhodians in 700 BC. Because of its location on an isthmus separating two harbours, it became the most important harbour city of the western Lycia and an important centre of commerce between Greece, Asia, Egypt, and Phoenicia, although it did not belong to the Lycian League.
Olympos
Olympos is an ancient city which is located in a valley at the south coast of Turkey, 85 km southwest of Porto Bello Hotel Antalya. The former city of Olympos was founded in the Hellenistic period, presumably taking its name from nearby Mount Olympos one of over twenty mountains with the name Olympos in the Classical world. The coins of the city of Olympos date back to the 2nd century BC. The city became one of the six leading cities of the Lycian League The Olympos village is located in the heart of the Olympos coastal national park. The surrounding area offers best conditions for Trekking, Mountain biking, Canyoning, Rock climbing, Sea kayaking. It is possible to rent equipment in the village or to join organized tours.
Myra & St. Nicholas Church
Myra is an ancient town in Lycia, where the small town of Kale is situated. It was located on the river Myrosand 140 km. from Porto Bello Hotel Antalya. There are two necropoli of Lycian rock-cut tombs in the form of temple fronts carved into the vertical faces of cliffs at Myra: the river necropolis and the ocean necropolis. The ruins of the Lycian and Roman town are mostly covered by alluvial silts. The town is traditionally associated with Saint Paul, who changed ships in its harbor. Saint Nicholas of Myra was the bishop of Myra in the 4th century, is said to have been an ardent opponent of Arianism at the First Council of Nicaea in 325, although his name does not appear among the signatories of that council.
Old Town Antalya
Old town Antalya is with its narrow cobbled streets of historic Ottoman era houses, is the old center of Antalya. It is only 8 km. from Porto Bello Hotel. With its bars, clubs, restaurants, and shopping, it has been restored to retain much of its historical character; its restoration has won the Golden Apple Tourism Prize. The city also features sites with traces of Lycian, Pamphylian, and Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman architecture and cultures.
Karain Cave
Karain Cave is a cave and a Paleolithic archaeological site located at Yağca village 32 km northwest of Porto Bello Hotel. Karain is a prehistoric cave, situated at a height of about 370 m from the sea and about 80 m up the slope, where the Western Taurus calcareous zone borders on the travertine plain. Evidence of human habitation dating back to the early Paleolithic age (150,000-200,000) years has been discovered in the caves.
Antalya Archeological Museum
Antalya Archeological Museum is one of Turkey's largest museums, located in Konyaaltı 5km. from Porto Bello Hotel Antalya. It includes 13 exhibition halls and an open air gallery. It covers an area of 7,000 m2 (75,000 sq ft) and has 5000 works of art are exhibited. In addition a further 25,000–30,000 artifacts which cannot be displayed are in storage. As a museum exhibiting examples of works, which illuminate the history of the Mediterranean and Pamphylia regions in Anatolia, Antalya Museum is one of the most important of Turkey's museums. The Museum won the “European Council Special Prize” in 1988.
